VOICE YOUR CONCERNS ON MANITOBA SILICA SAND MINING

[In solidarity with Camp Morningstar]

As of July 28th 2023, Canadian Premium Sands (CPS) has made alterations to their silica sand mine project yet again with zero public meetings or Section 35 Consultations.

The new mining plans are much closer to communities and the lake, putting people at more risk through the contamination of the air, water, and land situated within meters of the mining operation.

The final Notice of Alterations provided by CPS describes a completely different mining process than what was initially proposed. Concerning additions to their project include:

  • introduction of retention ponds and stockpiles

  • introduction of acid rock drainage and metal leaching

  • use of groundwater

  • new research on particulate matter in the air

  • reducing promised jobs down to 17

  • claims that treaty rights were not violated, we disagree.

  • includes no plans to reclaim the 65 Hectare of land cleared before a license was issued (which will not be used for this new project going forward)

The communities surrounding this project will suffer the impacts of this project for generations while Canadian Premium Sands continues to tear up the land for all the profit they can take before moving onto the next plan of destruction.

You can do something to stop this, please sign the letter of support in calling for the environmental license to be revoked until Section 35 Consultations are held and these concerns are addressed.

You can sign the letter here.
