Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective is located on Treaty 1, the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininew, and Dakota and the national homeland of the Red River Métis.

The Collective works together with First Nations peoples across the entire Lake Winnipeg watershed on Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10.

Why do we acknowledge the traditional territory?

The Land is sacred and much of our traditional knowledge, ways of knowing and teachings derive from the Land. Indigenous peoples are stewards and hold ancestral connections to the Land and Water that are evident in our land-based skills, philosophies and belief systems.

Land acknowledgements are a way of holding space for Indigenous peoples and an opportunity to fully understand where you are.
